Estimating Coverage

Example

Aqueous coat 40,000 sheets of 25" x 38" on one side

  • 25 x 38 = 950 divided by 144 = 6.6 sq. feet/sheet x 40,000 = 264,000 total sf
  • 264,000 sq. feet divided by 1000 = 264 total thousand sq. feet to be coated
  • 264 x .85 = 224.4 lbs. of coating required for the job

To figure in gallons, divide 224.4 by the weight/gallon of coating:
224.4 divided by 8.6 lbs./gallon = 26.1 gallons

Use the following formula to calculate the amount of aqueous coating you need for each job, also check out our Coverage Calculator:

  • length x width of sheet = total sq. inches/sheet
  • total sq. inches/sheet divided by 144 = total sq. feet/sheet
  • total sq. feet/sheet x number of impressions to be coated = total sq. feet
  • total sq. feet to be coated divided by 1000 = total thousand sq. feet to be coated
  • total thousand sq. feet to be coated x 1.00 (.85 wet pound of coating divided by 1000 sq. feet is the average coating application weight) = number of pounds of coating required.
